WHO ARE WE?Flamenco Latino is a performing company which presents boundary breaking repertoire at annual home-based seasons in theaters such as Jamaica Center for Arts & Learning. In small group format we perform traditional flamenco at restaurants, private parties and corporate events.
ARTISTIC APPROACHThe title of our very first creation was "We Ain't Doin' Nothin' New." It is a mambo descarga featuring authentic flamenco movement and footwork which conform to Cuban clave and emulate the rhythms of congas and timbales. This would not have been possible without our immersion in both flamenco and Afro Caribbean musical traditions.
OUR APPROACH AND ITS RELATION TO TEACHING"We Ain't Doin' Nothin' New" is both tongue-in-cheek humor, as well as a serious reflection on past traditions. Just about every aspect of modern, innovative flamenco has a root in past traditions and forms. Our approach is innovative and progressive; however, we strongly advocate a solid grounding in traditional flamenco. Whether you have aspirations to perform professionally, innovate in a related art form, or experience traditional involvement in this mysterious art form, you have to digest the basics. Flamenco Latino is your one-stop resource for full spectrum flamenco instruction: dance, guitar, cante (singing), and palmas (hand clapping). Classes are offered for adults, children, and programs are available for arts in education and senior centers.
